Read French at Your Own Pace

Read French at Your Own Pace

Love the idea of a French Book Club, but the date or time doesn’t work for you? For almost two years, I have been organizing monthly French Book Clubs for learners who want to improve their French through reading.
I am now offering a more flexible option: private French reading sessions.

Choose one of my selected books, read at your own pace, and work with me individually to check your understanding, discuss the story, review vocabulary, and practice speaking French.

You can choose between two different formats depending on how much support you would like.

Option 1: Read Independently + One Private Discussion Session

Choose a book from the list below and read it independently before our lesson.
You will receive a set of comprehension questions to guide your reading. Complete them on your own as you progress through the book.
Then, during a 60-minute private lesson, we will:
  • review your answers and check your understanding of the story
  • clarify vocabulary or passages that were difficult
  • discuss the characters and main events
  • talk about your opinions and reactions to the book
  • practice speaking naturally about what you have read
This option is ideal if you enjoy reading independently but would like the opportunity to verify your comprehension and discuss the book with a French teacher.

Option 2: Read the Book Together

Would you prefer more guidance?
We can work through the book together over several weeks during 30- or 45-minute private lessons.
We will progress chapter by chapter. Depending on your level and the book selected, we can:
  • read parts of the book together
  • work on pronunciation
  • explain new vocabulary and expressions
  • review grammar in context
  • answer comprehension questions after each chapter
  • discuss the story in French
This option is especially helpful if you are beginning to read books in French or if you would like more support throughout the reading process.

Choose a Book for Your Level

Mid-A1 level and Up
At this stage, you should already feel relatively comfortable understanding and using the present tense, understand the
futur proche, and have started learning and practicing the passé composé.

If you have a mid-A1 level or higher, I recommend the Monde en VF collection by Didier. Below, you’ll find a selection of books from this collection that are well suited to French learners.

Available titles:
Charles Perrault et le secret des contes (Amazon link: https://link.amazon/B0iIOp6eM)
